Early treatment with braces to fix crossbite
Total treatment time was about 2 months. We discussed the option of a retainer to fix his crossbite, but his parents were concerned that he would misplace his retainer. He only had a braces for his upper teeth. He might have further treatment later once his remaining permanent teeth have erupted. He still had baby teeth at the time of this treatment.
We felt that it was important to address his crossbite in order to avoid having his lower front tooth push to the front which would likely have resulted in loss of gum tissue (like that seen in the patient above).
Correction of the crossbite has stopped the potential loss of gum tissue from the lower front teeth. This was a scenario where early treatment/phase I treatment was beneficial and was strongly recommended in order to avoid a big problem.
