Your Three Rivers Orthodontist, Bandeen Orthodontics, Dispels Three Myths About Braces
Unfortunately, there are quite a few myths about orthodontic treatment that are believed by a lot of people and, to some, even seem like ‘common knowledge’… even though it’s not knowledge at all. They are just wrong. When it comes to orthodontic treatment and wearing braces, make sure that you are getting your information from a professional. In this post, your Three Rivers orthodontist, Bandeen Orthodontics discusses three of the most common myths we hear from our orthodontic patients.
Braces and other orthodontic treatment methods usually take a few YEARS to complete.
This is definitely false for our office. While treatment is not one size fits all and can vary based on a number of factors, at our office, your orthodontic treatment will typically take only a year to a year and a half! If you have consulted with, and are being told by other orthodontists that your treatment will take longer than that, please reach out to us so we can do an evaluation and see how long it will take us to complete your orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic treatment is done more for cosmetic purposes, not medical.
It’s very important to understand that besides improving the look of your teeth and smile, wearing braces can help to improve your overall oral health and also properly align your jaw. When your jaw is misaligned, there can be pain and discomfort and when your teeth are not properly aligned, food and bacteria are more easily trapped, causing dental issues like gingivitis which can lead to other health complications down the line.
Braces are only acceptable for children and teens.
Because Bandeen has been able to greatly reduce treatment times, adult treatment is more common and popular than it has ever been! It may surprise you to hear that about one-third of our patients are actually over 18. Dispelling this myth is very important to us as you are never too old to improve your smile.
At Bandeen Orthodontics of Three Rivers, we want our patients to be informed and know the facts about their orthodontic treatment. If you have any questions for your Three Rivers orthodontist, Bandeen Orthodontics, do not hesitate to contact us!
