Is Invisalign Right for Your Orthodontic Needs?
Misaligned teeth were previously treated with traditional metal braces that could be tricky and resulted in patients not wanting to show off a smile full of metal. While these older procedures have been improved and are still necessary for some patients’ orthodontic care, Invisalign has proven to be extremely effective for orthodontic adjustments for our patients at Bandeen Orthodontics. Invisalign treatment will vary in terms of time from patient to patient, and unfortunately, it’s not the right option for everyone. If you are interested in correcting an overbite or crooked teeth with Invisalign, please read further for more information about what you can expect during the initial examination and beyond.
Your First Orthodontic Visit
During your first visit, we will thoroughly examine your teeth to determine whether or not Invisalign is a possibility for your specific condition. Generally, in extreme cases of crowding or other severe orthodontic issues, then more traditional orthodontic methods may be necessary to properly correct and straighten your teeth. However, if our Three Rivers orthodontist determines that Invisalign is a viable option for you, we will need to create a complete set of orthodontic records, including photographs, x-rays, and impressions. One of the impressions is a specific one needed for the Invisalign treatment and will be sent to the Invisalign lab for the purpose of designing your customized aligners.
Invisalign Lab Work
Invisalign will take all of the records we send them to create a three-dimensional model of your teeth. We then coordinate with Invisalign to confirm that the overall plan is acceptable, Invisalign will make “aligners” and send them to us. There aligners are to be used in a precise sequential order to facilitate gradual, two week adjustments that will get you to your orthodontic goals. The amount of tooth realignment and movement necessary will determine how many aligners you need to use to get the results you are looking for. After the Invisalign treatments are completed, Bandeen Orthodontics will provide you with a set of retainers to ensure that the changes last a long time.
What if Invisalign Doesn’t Work?
Before we start the Invisalign process, we will discuss the limitations in detail to ensure you fully understand the process. In the event that Invisalign isn’t producing the results you need, then we may have to finish the process with regular retainers or possibly even traditional braces for a short time. This is why we go out of our way to make sure that every patient is thoroughly educated about the process before we make any treatment determination.
