Getting Braces From Your Three Rivers Orthodontist When You Have Had Dental Work

If you have had dental work, including implants, crowns, or veneers, you may be concerned about getting braces. Fortunately, orthodontic treatment is still possible. In this post, your Three Rivers orthodontist, Bandeen Orthodontics, will discuss a few different scenarios and what you can expect with your orthodontic treatment.

Dental Implants

In an ideal world, orthodontic treatment would begin before getting a dental implant, however, that’s not always possible. The best case scenario for getting braces with a dental implant is that the implant is already in the right position, allowing for your other teeth to be aligned around the implant(s). If your implant is not in the correct position, you may want to consider having it replaced, or even just the crown replaced, after your orthodontic treatment is complete.

Fillings or Crowns

If you have had tooth decay or damage to your teeth that has been corrected by a filling or crown, you can still get braces. Your Kalamazoo orthodontist will adapt your treatment plan if necessary, to protect your crowns.

Veneers

If at all possible, it’s a good idea to have your orthodontic treatment before getting veneers. The reason for this is that your brace’s brackets may damage the veneer’s surface. If you have already had veneers, you may need to have additional work done after your braces are removed if the veneers are damaged.
