4 Common Myths About Braces
There are so many common myths when it comes to orthodontic care and wearing braces. In this post, Bandeen Orthodontics of Three Rivers will discuss four of these myths and the reasons why they’re not legitimate.
Orthodontic treatment / braces take years to complete. While treatment is not one size fits all and can vary based on a number of factors, at Bandeen Orthodontics your orthodontic treatment will typically take only a year to a year and a half. If you’re being told by other orthodontists that your treatment will take longer than that, please reach out to us so we can do an evaluation and see how long your orthodontic treatment will take.
Orthodontic treatment is done only for cosmetic purposes. Besides improving the look of your teeth and smile, wearing braces can help to improve your overall oral health as well properly aligning your jaw. When your jaw is misaligned, there can be pain and discomfort and when your teeth are not properly aligned, food and bacteria are more easily trapped.
You don’t need to see an orthodontist for orthodontic treatment anymore. You may have seen advertisements for orthodontic treatment you can do yourself at home. And while some of these results can appear good for those with less of a need for tooth movement, you should see an orthodontist that can monitor your progress and the health of your mouth.
Braces are really only for children and teenagers. As a product of reduced orthodontic treatment times, adult treatment is more common than it has ever been. It may surprise you to hear that about one-third of our patients are over eighteen.
At Bandeen Orthodontics of Three Rivers, we know the importance of accurate information when it comes to orthodontic treatment. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule an appointment, do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you!
